About My Site
It's all about helping others and learning some genetics too!
My name is Maya Elkbouli and I am a second year biochemistry student at the University of Ottawa. This website is created due to passion for informing my lovely followers about my daily activities and experiences.
As you already know, I am still working at Shoppers Drug Mart as a pharmacy assistant and still working at the Ottawa Hospital as a research assistant. But that is not it friends! I am currently enrolled in a genetics course--BIO2133--with Dr. Colin Montpetit. Like any other science course, this class has a lab component. But unlike other sciences courses, this class has a Community Service Learning (CSL) component!
CSL is created to make students apply what's learnt in class into practice. CSL is about increasing students' involvement and participation on extracurricular activities. For me, CSL is important in enhancing my skills and experience which will help towards making me a better student and person.
I am currently doing it at the Canadian National Institute of the Blind (CNIB). I have many roles including Shop CNIB assistant and event planner. My role as a CNIB Shop assistant is to aid customers with choosing the right product they need. We have many products that could assist the visually impaired with their daily activities. For instance, Dot Watches use the Braille system to display time and whether to customer or the camera glass that gets attached to glasses and read to customers anything that's written. My responsibilities as an event planner is to help organize events for the kids who are visually impaired. Not only that, I do help in decorating the events and during the events. I really do enjoy this responsibility as I love it when I make others happy.
With that being said folks, the focus of my blogs for the upcoming month will be about my CSL placement. Stay tuned :)
